Matthew 16:24, “Take up your cross and follow Me.”
Our call from Christ is to die to ourselves daily, and to pick up your cross and follow Him. We see this theme throughout the New Testament, that we are to reject what the world has to offer and to instead follow Jesus. Does this mean we are to be like the rich young ruler and sell all our possessions? Not at all. But it does require us to check where our priorities stand. Do we focus more on gathering riches and material items that we cannot take with us into eternity, or do we concentrate on Christ? As Jesus tells the rich young ruler, to go and sell all of his possessions, it should be a moment for us to change our perspective. What are we doing in our lives currently to pick up our cross and follow Him? Do we make Him Lord over all things, or just over our Sunday mornings? What do you sacrifice to be a follower? Which friends or family members have you lost because you relentlessly pursue Jesus?
