Chapter 1, Verse 4

“who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father”

Christ gave Himself on the cross, the ultimate atonement for sin. No more animal sacrifices are required now that Christ has died and resurrected from the grave. His death washes our sins clean, and we can be delivered from this world. The Greek “out of the,” The Father and Son are each said to “deliver us” but it was the Son gave Himself for us in order to make us citizens of a better world. To bring us out of this world, because the present “age” opposes the glory of God and is under the authority of the Evil One. All of this is done in accordance to the will of God without any merit from us. We should not try to bend our own legal notions on this, as this whole process is due to God’s perfect will.
