13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
A verse that is often taken out of context and used more for “life verses” than for what Paul meant for its original intention. While this verse can provide comfort to many if not all Christians, we have to understand the context and the reason that Paul wrote it. To see the point that Paul is making we have to back up to verse 10 and read through all 3 verses. Paul is talking about his troubles he has faced and lays it out in verse 12, that he has learned the secret of plenty and hunger, abundance and need and how to be content in every circumstance. God provides that strength. So while this is a comforting verse and should remain so, we must understand the context in which Paul writes it; through all of Paul’s highs and lows, he is sustained by God.
