7 “not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.”
Immediately after accusing the Galatians of abandoning the true Gospel in a quick manner, without even thinking about it, Paul repeats the truth that there is no other Gospel. The Good News of Christ are unique, one of a kind, impossible to imitate and let alone copy them.
Judaism had left an indelible mark upon some people who were considering Christianity, although with the ceremonial aspect of the Mosaic Law still deep entrenched in their minds and hearts. These people, known as “Judaizers” were infecting Christ’s finished work on the Cross by trying to add circumcision in order to achieve salvation, and a subsequent observance of the Law of God. This is nothing but a corruption of God’s Gospel.
Adding works of the Law or any kind of personal merit is standing in opposition to Christ’s words on the Cross, “it is FINISHED” (emphasis mine). Salvation is by faith alone, in Christ alone. Anything that is added to that is actually a deserting of who Christ and what He has done. Nothing is more hellish than to distort the Gospel of Christ.
