1 Corinthians 10 Verse 13

13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. [1]

This is a great comfort for all Christians. Knowing that we have this encouragement in Christ. But we have at the same time an implicit rebuke from Paul. If it is God who is keeping us from temptations, we cannot plead that it is our temptations as an excuse to sin. We cannot say that we were tempted in our sin because God is faithful. Knowing that sin is not a necessity for a believer, we do not have to succumb to it. We are provided a way out. When Jesus was temped int the desert in Luke 4, He relied on the Word of God, and the Holy Spirit of God to counter the tempter. We have these same tools. Spend time in the Word, reading, mediating, and memorizing scripture. Use the Word of God to kill your temptations, spend time in prayer and grow closer to God.
