26 But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” [1]
A verse that can easily be taken out of context if we look
at it just at a glance. We must take a look at previous and following verses to
know what Jesus is talking about. The key word here is “this”. What is it that
Jesus is talking about? The “this” refers to salvation as Jesus is talking
about the Rich young man. Jesus makes the statement simple, salvation is impossible
for man to accomplish, but with God all things are possible. All things in God
are possible is the answer to the question in the previous verse, “Who can be
saved?” We know that we are saved by grace through faith alone, not by any
works in of ourselves. Man cannot attribute anything to their salvation.
