12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
The beauty of Scripture is that it is truly alive, and active. The text doesn’t change, but our understanding over our life changes. As we study the bible, it deepens with knowledge, and wisdom, opening up the truth of God’s word. The preceding argument (Chapter 3:7-4:11) has illustrated how the word God’s power exposed the faithlessness of the wilderness generation and how Scripture penetrates and judges those whom it invites today. The bible warns about the deceitfulness of sin, the possibility of falling shot, and continues to operate the same today as it did when it was spoken and wrote down almost 2000 years ago. The Bible pierces us to the soul, causing us to self-examine ourselves, to see if we truly are walking in the ways of Christ, or are we walking with the word. The bible exposes our sin, calls us out to repent, and turn to Christ for salvation. What a beautiful thought as we enter the weekend. Open your bible, and spend some time digging into scripture.
