1 John 2 verse 15

15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.[1]

Where does your heart’s desire point to? To the world and the treasures of it, or does it point to Christ? Jesus often talked about money and putting trust in the world, as mentioned in Matthew and Luke when He gave His famous Sermon on the Mount. Jesus tells us that those who are in Christ and poor are blessed, but woe to those who are rich. Those who put their trust in the riches of this world, do not have the Love of the Father with them. They would rather seek to fulfill their earthly lust, than trust God. John confirms this warning again here, do not love the things of this world. We as Christians are called to be separated from the world, not pursing the temporary devices, but seeking earnestly after God. While money or possessions are not bad, and Jesus never said they were, the pride that comes from them can ruin a man. Be careful where you set your eyes to. Do you seek the things of this world? Because if so, you’ll be living your best life now, and the next will be spent in eternal misery.
