James 1 Verse 19

19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger[1]

While today’s movement pushes forth the concept of having elegant speaking, and a charismatic approach to the stage or really any avenue in life, James tells us something different here. A person seeking to progress in holiness should be slow to speak, but quick to hear. It’s not how well we can speak, or our command of the stage, but how fast we are to listen. Listening to the problems of others and working through issues by being someone people can turn to. We should never jump to anger as a result of a poor situation, but taking a step back and listening to all parties before making rash decisions.
