Matthew 5 Verse 8

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. [1]

The beautiful Sermon on the Mount is the pivotal point in Jesus’s ministry. He has just appointed his 12 apostles and is starting to ruffle feathers of the Pharisees. He opens this sermon with a position of salvation, those who are chosen by God as He goes through the Blessed statements. Blessed are the pure in heart, the most comprehensive of all the beatitudes; here holiness and happiness are fully described together. True religion consists in heart-purity, those who are inwardly pure and are under the power of pure and undefiled religion. True Christianity lies in the heart, one the wickedness has washed away, Jeremiah 4:14. Those pure in heart, will see God. While God is a spirit, His divine essence is invisible, and because He is infinitely perfect and holy, sinful humans would be destroyed if they viewed Him directly. Believers see His glory through faith. In our glorified state, we will see Him as He is.
